Inside the C. NEXT Designers Conference

Inspiration and Relationship Building at the C. NEXT Designers Conference

As Bryan and I are quickly approaching the 10-year anniversary of founding Yates Desgyn, our hearts are continually full of gratitude and excitement. Seeing so many of your dreams come true is an amazing feeling, but one thing we have learned is that dreams keep evolving and growing through new experiences, relationship building, and unexpected sources of inspiration.

This was never more evident than at the 2026 C. NEXT Designers Conference in Cancun. It was an experience we will never forget.

A Gathering of Design Leaders

Hosted by Cosentino, the C. Next conference brings together industry leaders from the world of design. Established and emerging designers have the chance to engage with editors, brand executives, and other creatives to listen, learn, and share ideas. With this being C. Next’s 5TH anniversary and being held at the stunning Nizuc Resort, Bryan and I were thrilled to be included on this year’s guest list. Despite some delayed travel (here is looking at you, brutal winter storm!), we arrived in Cancun to bright blue beautiful skies with nary a snowflake in sight. And that was when the fun really began!

Conversations That Shape Creative Direction

The roster of speakers and moderators for the conference was truly spectacular. It was amazing to hear insights and firsthand accounts from colleagues who have left an indelible mark on our industry, not only as creatives but also as entrepreneurs. One panel discussion that was of particular interest was “Why That Hue Feels Right: The Psychology of Color in Design” with author Karen Haller and fellow Kips Bay alum Alexa Hampton and moderated by Veranda Editor in Chief Steele Marcroux.

After our team building experience doing our personal color analysis this past December, a regular topic of discussion around the office has been centered around the many effect color has on who we are as people and what we do as designers. So, it was of particular interest hearing these experts discuss the emotions behind color design.

Another amazing part of being able to attend C. Next was getting to spend time editors from the top design publications. These incredibly talented individuals do so much to elevate the visibility of our community. It is always an honor to hear and learn from them, and so much fun getting to know them better.

Why Design Industry Relationships Matter

When we are asked what the value of attending C. Next is, the answer is simple: relationships. It is a moment where we connect with fellow industry partners and peers. This isn’t about what can you do for me. This is about supporting each other and raising the level and expectations of our industry. Together we take a breath and a moment to appreciate and be present. This is how we enhance our industry. It is a place for existing relationships to build shared memories, and for new relationships to begin. I could say hello to a “stranger” and immediately make a new friend.

And speaking of new friends… Sometimes you even get to meet new dancing buddies! If anyone ever wondered, Thom Filicia can really throw down on the dancefloor!

The level of talent in one resort at the same time is unheard of, and we are all there to learn, grow, support each other. It feels great and inspires us.

Looking Ahead

We are deeply grateful to Cosentino, the team at Nizuc Resort, and everyone who contributed to making C. NEXT 2026 such an uplifting and memorable experience. We return to our work with renewed perspective and look forward to continuing the conversations and collaborations that began there.

We are already excited for what next year will bring.
