At Yates Desygn, we believe in celebrating creativity in all its forms. The kind that stops you in your tracks, that transforms a simple room into a world, that turns fabric and thread into character and story. So when the opportunity arose to help celebrate the release of Dreams and Ideas: The Artistry of Costume Designer Winn Morton by Myra Walker, we didn’t hesitate.
It is also a beautiful reminder that inspiration can come from anywhere, a theme we explored in our piece on where interior designers find inspiration
The Life and Legacy of Winn Morton
Winn Morton was a true creative genius. Over the course of a career that stretched from his teenage years all the way to age 90, he dressed showgirls at the Roxy Theatre, outfitted Broadway productions, designed for the 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair, costumed the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and for nearly four decades brought breathtaking gowns, crowns, and pageantry to the Texas Rose Festival in Tyler. The breadth of his work and the profound impact he had on the creative and social communities of Texas and beyond deserved to be recognized and preserved.

Myra Walker’s years-long effort to do exactly that resulted in a stunning book that touches on a life dedicated to realizing a vision of beauty. Dreams and Ideas is a labor of love, and it shows on every page.
A Book Signing to Honor Myra Walker and Winn Morton
We were thrilled to partner with our friends at PaperCity and the wonderful team at Conduit Art Gallery to host a book signing celebrating both Myra and Winn’s remarkable legacy. Nancy and Dannette graciously opened Conduit’s doors for what turned out to be a fantastic gathering, exactly the kind of warm, creative community moment this book deserves. A sincere thank you to the team at PaperCity for all their help coordinating and promoting the event, and to Nancy and Dannette for making it such a memorable evening.
