Yates Desygn's "The Parlour" room for Kips Bay Dallas 2025

A Contemporary Take on a Traditional Parlour

The Parlour for the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas 2025 reflects months of inspiration, collaboration, and craftsmanship. Rooted in tradition yet interpreted through a contemporary lens, the room was designed to bring people together — a warm invitation for gathering, conversation, and community.

From the moment Bryan Yates stepped into the assigned space, the vision became clear. The team imagined a modern-day parlour, free from distraction and centered on the joy of lingering after dinner with cocktails or games. A dream of chartreuse ceilings and softly ombréd white oak walls became the catalyst for the palette. Influences from recent travels and moments in New York added unexpected color, texture, and personality, shaping a room that feels nostalgic and fresh in equal measure.

Designed for Connection, Created to Be Felt

The Parlour was never meant to be a showpiece – the room was created to be lived in. Imagined as a post-dinner gathering space, the room invites guests to linger over games, a nightcap, or relaxed conversation.

Warm, personal, and quietly expressive, it was designed to create an atmosphere where people naturally slow down and connect.

That intention became clear the moment visitors stepped inside. Their reactions – delight, curiosity, and surprise – reflected the spirit of the room and the care behind every choice.

As Bryan shares, the space feels “100% us,” a deeply personal expression of the studio’s shared design language and the experience they hoped to create for every guest.

A Studio Effort, Built by Many Hands

Every Yates Desygn project is built on collaboration. With the whole design team contributing to this space, the process mirrored how the firm works with clients   -charettes, shared ideas, and designing through each person’s strengths.

“Multiple hands create every project,” Bryan says. “We wanted this space to show exactly what can happen when a team builds something together.”

Crafted Through Collaboration

The Parlour is a celebration of craftsmanship. Custom millwork, ombré plaster finishes, bespoke furniture pieces, and hand-blown glass came together through partnerships with artisans who are masters of their craft.

From the millworker shaping every panel to the glass artist creating the sculptural vase integrated into the coffee table, each collaborator played a vital role in bringing the vision to life.
