Kips Bay 2025 Decorator Showhouse

Inspired by the tradition of parlours from our grandparents’ and great-grandparents’ homes, this space reimagines what it means to gather today. Located at the end of the first floor and leading out to the terrace, the space was envisioned as a modern parlour, a place to connect, entertain, and celebrate moments together.

Our design blurs the line between old and new, layering contemporary elements into a foundation of historic architecture. Paneled walls, parquet flooring, intricate millwork, striped fabric from Tillet used on The Shade Store custom drapery, and a brass mesh ceiling structure reinterpret tradition in unexpected ways. Even the Patterson Flynn rug, cut on an angle, playfully reveals glimpses of the parquet beneath, creating a dialogue between past and present.

The furnishings reflect a curated, collected spirit rather than a decorated one. Iconic classics from Sputnik Modern and Scott + Cooner sit alongside contemporary pieces from Avenue Road to create a room that feels both dynamic and inviting.

This parlour is not about formality for its own sake; it’s about creating a space that feels youthful, fresh, and approachable while still rooted in tradition. With bold textures, dynamic colors, and an interplay of heritage and innovation, it becomes a stage for both honoring history
and creating new stories.
